Maker Space Rules

Maker Space Rules

Welcome to the Geaux Cajun IT Maker Space. Our goal is to provide a safe, productive, clean, and respectful environment where members, students, creators, small businesses, and guests can create, learn, and build.

By using the maker space, attending a class, reserving equipment, renting space, or participating in any activity at Geaux Cajun IT, you agree to follow these rules.

1. Safety Comes First

All members, guests, students, and visitors must follow posted safety instructions, staff direction, equipment rules, and class requirements at all times.

Do not use any machine, tool, chemical, material, or workspace unless you understand how to use it safely and have been approved or trained when required.

Unsafe behavior may result in immediate removal from the space, suspension of access, cancellation of membership, or denial of future service.

2. Required Training and Approval

Some equipment requires training, certification, staff approval, or supervised use before access is granted. This may include, but is not limited to:

  • Laser cutters and engravers
  • CNC equipment
  • Plasma cutting equipment
  • UV printers
  • Apparel printers
  • Embroidery equipment
  • Woodworking tools
  • Heat presses
  • Finishing tools
  • Any equipment marked as staff-only or training-required

Geaux Cajun IT may require refresher training at any time.

3. Respect the Space

All users are expected to keep the space clean, organized, and professional.

Members and guests must:

  • Clean their work area after use
  • Return tools to their proper location
  • Dispose of trash properly
  • Remove personal materials unless storage has been rented
  • Keep walkways, exits, and safety areas clear
  • Avoid damaging tables, tools, fixtures, machines, or inventory

Cleaning fees or damage charges may apply if a user leaves a mess, damages property, or misuses equipment.

4. Respect Other Members and Guests

Geaux Cajun IT is a shared environment. All users must act respectfully toward staff, instructors, members, guests, customers, and vendors.

Harassment, threats, intimidation, discrimination, abusive language, theft, vandalism, unsafe behavior, or disruptive conduct will not be tolerated.

5. No Unauthorized Use

Do not use equipment, materials, tools, inventory, storage areas, private bays, computers, customer projects, or staff-only areas without permission.

Do not enter restricted areas unless authorized by Geaux Cajun IT staff.

6. Personal Projects and Commercial Projects

Members may work on personal projects based on their membership level and access rules.

Commercial use may require a Business Membership, Pro Membership, private bay agreement, project approval, or separate fabrication quote depending on the type and scale of work.

Geaux Cajun IT may restrict projects that create excessive mess, odor, noise, safety risk, machine wear, or disruption to other users.

7. Materials

Only approved materials may be used with Geaux Cajun IT equipment. Some materials are unsafe for lasers, printers, CNC tools, heat presses, or other equipment.

Users must disclose what materials they plan to use before operating equipment. Geaux Cajun IT may refuse any material for safety, machine protection, ventilation, cleanliness, odor, fire risk, or quality reasons.

8. Machine Reservations

Machine access may require reservation. Reservations are subject to availability, staff approval, maintenance schedules, training requirements, and membership level.

Late arrivals, no-shows, misuse, or failure to clean up may result in loss of reservation privileges.

9. Guests

Guest access may be limited by membership level, event type, age, safety requirements, and space capacity.

Members are responsible for their guests. Guests may be required to sign a waiver, follow safety rules, and remain in approved areas only.

10. Children and Minors

Children and minors must be supervised at all times unless enrolled in an approved class, event, or youth program. Some equipment and areas may be restricted by age.

A parent or guardian may be required to sign a waiver for any minor participating in classes, workshops, tours, or maker space activities.

11. Food, Drinks, and Personal Items

Food and drinks may be restricted near machines, materials, computers, tools, and customer projects.

Geaux Cajun IT is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal items.

12. Damage, Loss, and Misuse

Users may be responsible for repair or replacement costs caused by misuse, negligence, unauthorized operation, damage, contamination, or failure to follow instructions.

13. Right to Refuse Access

Geaux Cajun IT reserves the right to refuse service, deny access, suspend privileges, cancel membership, remove users from the premises, or restrict equipment use for safety, policy, operational, payment, or conduct reasons.

14. Policy Updates

These rules may be updated at any time. Continued use of the maker space means you agree to the current rules and policies.
